Ethan Lipton’s plays have been seen and heard in New York, LA, Seattle, Edinburgh (Scotland) and Berne (Austria) at theaters including the Public, Lark, 3LD, HERE, the Ohio, New York Stage and Film, Dixon Place, WPA, Complex and  Powerhouse, with companies including Clubbed Thumb, Gotham Stage, Buffalo Nights, New Century and Rude Mechanicals.

Ethan is a winner of a NYFA grant and a Drama-Logue Award for playwriting. He has been a Kesselring nominee, an O’Neil Conference finalist and a member of the Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group.  Ethan is a 2011 Playwright’s Realm Fellow and a member of the Clubbed Thumb Writers Group.

Currently working on a commission from True Love Productions to write the book and songs for a new musical, Ethan received a 2011 New York Voices NEA grant from Joe’s Pub, for which he and his band created the music theater piece “No Place to Go.”

On the sly, Ethan has sung backup for Laurie Anderson on “Late Night with David Letterman,” originated the role of Klipspringer in ERS’s award-winning production GATZ and worked with Gabriella Barnstone of dance-theater company El Gato Teatro.  A graduate of UCLA, Ethan grew up in the San Fernando Valley and now lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with his wife, photographer Heather Phelps-Lipton.
